Biography

Wielding a “magic baton” (Brooklyn Eagle), conductor BRIAN HOLMAN has performed on four continents to great acclaim. Recent successes include Tosca at Merkin Concert Hall in New York City, the New York premiere of Amelia Lost with Marble City Opera at the National Opera Center, Aida at Columbia University, and La Traviata with Valley Lyric Opera and Vera Musica. He has worked with Opera Africa, Treasure Coast Opera, New Rochelle Opera, New York Metro Vocal Arts Ensemble, and has conducted Tucson Pops Orchestra, Claremont Orchestra, Ensemble Mise-En, and DETOUR New Music Ensemble.

A “superb partner artist” (Hudson-Catskill), Mr. Holman has performed with many important singers, including Nelly Miricioiu, Aprile Millo, Stella Zambalis, Francisco Casanova, Jason Stearns and Latin pop legend Nini Cáffaro. Mr. Holman has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Weill Recital Hall, Salle Cortot, Teatro Nacional de Santo Domingo, Broadway's 54 Below, MGM Grand Detroit, and The Rainbow Room. His performances have been broadcast on international radio (Sirius XM, Esimora Cultural RAC Colombia, KBAQ Phoenix, Radio Maria) and television (Alhurra, Tele-Occidente Sicilia, TeleMATER).

Mr. Holman is Assistant Music Director of Mediterranean Opera Studio in Sicily, and a guest coach for the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. He served on the faculties of Montclair State University, American Musical and Dramatic Academy, Westchester Summer Vocal Institute at Sarah Lawrence College, and Mannes College of Music.

A native of Arizona, Brian studied at Arizona State University and Manhattan School of Music. He also attended conducting seminars at L’Ècole Normale de Musique in Paris and the Czech Republic. An accomplished pianist, Mr. Holman performed in the masterclasses of Ivan Moravec, Vladimir Feltsman and Francisco Aybar. He was also invited to play for the vocal masterclasses of Ira Siff (Metropolitan Opera Guild), Lauren Flanigan, Nicola Martinucci, Marcello Giordani, Salvatore Fisichella, and Pietro Ballo.

Brian Holman’s compositions have been performed by the Tucson Symphony and Tucson Pops orchestras. Mr. Holman was commissioned by the Tucson Historic Preservation Foundation to write an original score to the 1924 silent film The Mine with the Iron Door. His piano solos are also heard on the soundtrack of Dave Boyle’s indie romantic comedy, White on Rice. Mr. Holman currently resides in New York City.
